Dr Corrado Montoneri is a member of the RCVS (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) Riding Establishment Inspectorate and performs riding establishments inspections under the instruction of local authorities.
All Riding Establishments where equines can be hired for riding activities need to be licensed by their local authority to ensure that animals health is maintained, and riders are safe.
Riding Establishments willing to be issued a new license for business or renew their existing license, must apply to their local authority, and undergo an inspection carried out by a RCVS approved Riding Establishment veterinary inspector (a veterinary surgeon) and a local authority inspector.
The veterinary inspector will be instructed by the local authority.
These regulations follow the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018 for England and Riding Establishments Acts 1964 and 1970 for Scotland and Wales.
The Riding Establishments Acts 1964 and 1970 was introduced to protect the welfare of horses, ponies and donkeys in riding schools, trekking centres, or any place where these are ridden by the paying public, including pony rides at shoes, polo clubs, equine colleges, hunting, and beeches.
Licenses are issued with 12-month validity and Establishments can apply for extended licenses with a 2/3-year validity. Under Regulations, Establishments receiving an extended license will be required to undergo Interim annual inspections, which will generally entail clinical assessments of horses as well as minor aspect of a general inspection.
