Corrado has looked after my mare since I bought her (4 yrs ago) and has been fantastic... always available, reliable and professional. Would recommend 100%!
Sarah Maxwell
Fully recommend this practice after receiving an excellent service throughout my horse’s recent recovery from a check ligament injury. Corrado talked me through each scan, so I could understand what I was looking at and see the improvements for myself and his advice at each stage of the rehab process has been spot on. So much so that my horse has made a full recovery and is back competing at his previous level and the leg looks fantastic

Surrey equine dentist

Surrey Hills Equine Vets provide advanced equine dentistry services, including routine dentistry, advanced dentistry, imaging, and referrals.

Routine dental care plays a vital role in the overall well-being of every horse. The field of equine dentistry has experienced significant advancements in recent years, focusing on understanding, preventing, and treating a diverse range of conditions while recognising the impact of dentistry on a horse's performance.

Our horse dentists recommend a thorough examination of your horse's mouth and teeth every six to 12 months, taking into account their age and dental history. This frequency ensures the prompt detection and efficient treatment of any issues. If you observe any signs of dental problems, we advise scheduling a dental examination at an earlier date.

Vettings and pre-purchase examinations by horse vets in Surrey

At Surrey Hills Equine, we recognise the significance of pre-purchase examinations (PPEs) and the specific requirements of potential buyers. We are committed to conducting these examinations promptly, accommodating short-notice requests when necessary.

Having conducted countless horse vettings (PPEs), we consider ourselves highly proficient. Our expertise extends beyond our regular client base, as veterinary surgeons from distant locations routinely recommend our services to assess horses for purchase on behalf of their clients.

During the preliminary phone consultation, we provide clients with guidance on the most beneficial and appropriate examination for their specific circumstances. This involves discussing the choice between a five-stage and two-stage pre-purchase examination and the necessity for diagnostic imaging, including X-rays, ultrasound scans, or upper airways endoscopy.

Other Equine Services in Surrey

Our horse vets can provide a complete range of services, including:

Services Treating Lameness

Lameness and poor performance

Lameness issues can inflict pain on your horse and cause concern and disruption for you as an owner. Our goal is to identify the cause of the problem and recommend suitable treatment to get your horse back to normal as quickly as possible.

The lameness investigation may involve various procedures, including the examination of your horse's conformation, movement, stride, and limb placement, flexion tests, palpation of the limbs and muscles, examination at walk and trot in hand and on the lunge, ridden examination, nerve or joint blocks, and X-ray or ultrasound.

Services Gastroscopy

Gastroscopy

Equine gastric ulcer syndrome (EGUS) is increasingly acknowledged as a common culprit behind various clinical signs, including poor performance, behavioural changes, reduced appetite, lacklustre coat condition, and discomfort during girthing.

All horses face the risk of developing ulcers, with contributing factors such as a high-carbohydrate diet, intense training or competition schedules, and stressors like illness or changes in routine, such as box rest.

Using a gastroscope, we can visually inspect the horse's esophagus, stomach and proximal duodenum to confirm the presence of ulcers. Since ulcer treatment can be costly, a thorough stomach examination through gastroscopy is recommended before initiating any treatment.

Services Diagnostic Imaging

Mobile diagnostic imaging

Surrey Hills Equine employs cutting-edge portable wireless diagnostic imaging tools, including Digital X-ray systems, Ultrasound Scanners, and Video Endoscopy, delivered directly to clients' premises. This innovative approach allows us to provide the convenience of on-site examinations, eliminating the need to transport horses.

Our horse vets may recommend additional diagnostic imaging, whether it is for lameness investigations, pre-purchase examinations (vetting), dental or head-related concerns, or assessments of upper airways for respiratory conditions or Strangles cases.

Services Endoscopy

Endoscopy

Endoscopy is a valuable tool for assessing the respiratory tract, especially in horses facing respiratory issues or exhibiting poor performance.

The procedure involves passing a flexible camera, known as an endoscope, through your horse's nostril, pharynx, larynx, and down the trachea, with the option to examine the guttural pouches.
