Corrado and the team have been excellent supporting myself and our pony through a nasty field injury that required emergency internal and external stiches. Corrado was calm and compassionate at every visit providing clear advice on the treatment and care required. Definitely recommend the practice.

Highly recommend the team at Surrey Hills Equine Vets. Can’t speak highly enough of Corrado. He was great and extremely informative with regard to the horse vetting and X-rays when we spoke over the phone. He was extremely professional and gave a lot of clarity on the day to the unfortunate findings. Would definitely use again.

Do you need a local horse vet for a horse vetting in Cowfold, RH13

Buying a new horse is a big decision. A pre-purchase veterinary examination is a crucial step. This assessment provides valuable insight into the horse's health and suitability and allows you to make an informed decision. Our experienced veterinarians at Surrey Hills Equine conduct these thorough evaluations, ensuring you have complete peace of mind.

Our vetting process is a multi-stage process. We begin with a thorough examination of the horse at rest, including its heart, lungs, eyes, and limbs. We then evaluate the horse's gait and flexibility at the walk and trot with and without joint flexion to look for lameness or stiffness. Next, the horse is exercised rigorously, often ridden, to check the respiratory and cardiac health under exertion.

After a short rest, we review all relevant paperwork, conduct a final check for any new lumps or bumps, and take a blood sample for a laboratory test that can screen for prohibited substances. Radiographs can be taken at this stage if needed. The final stage involves a hand trot to check for any new issues that have arisen after the exercise.

Our excellent online reviews reflect our commitment to this high standard of care. One client said:

Corrado from Surrey Hill Vetting did a 5-star pre-purchase vetting and was so impressed as did not know this. Vetting report completed within 2 hours and called me to go over everything. Amazing quick service and felt very reassured. Thanks again.

Other Equine Services in Surrey

Our horse vets can provide a complete range of services, including:

Services Treating Lameness

Lameness and poor performance

Lameness issues can inflict pain on your horse and cause concern and disruption for you as an owner. Our goal is to identify the cause of the problem and recommend suitable treatment to get your horse back to normal as quickly as possible.

The lameness investigation may involve various procedures, including the examination of your horse's conformation, movement, stride, and limb placement, flexion tests, palpation of the limbs and muscles, examination at walk and trot in hand and on the lunge, ridden examination, nerve or joint blocks, and X-ray or ultrasound.

Services Gastroscopy

Gastroscopy

Equine gastric ulcer syndrome (EGUS) is increasingly acknowledged as a common culprit behind various clinical signs, including poor performance, behavioural changes, reduced appetite, lacklustre coat condition, and discomfort during girthing.

All horses face the risk of developing ulcers, with contributing factors such as a high-carbohydrate diet, intense training or competition schedules, and stressors like illness or changes in routine, such as box rest.

Using a gastroscope, we can visually inspect the horse's esophagus, stomach and proximal duodenum to confirm the presence of ulcers. Since ulcer treatment can be costly, a thorough stomach examination through gastroscopy is recommended before initiating any treatment.

Services Diagnostic Imaging

Mobile diagnostic imaging

Surrey Hills Equine employs cutting-edge portable wireless diagnostic imaging tools, including Digital X-ray systems, Ultrasound Scanners, and Video Endoscopy, delivered directly to clients' premises. This innovative approach allows us to provide the convenience of on-site examinations, eliminating the need to transport horses.

Our horse vets may recommend additional diagnostic imaging, whether it is for lameness investigations, pre-purchase examinations (vetting), dental or head-related concerns, or assessments of upper airways for respiratory conditions or Strangles cases.

Services Endoscopy

Endoscopy

Endoscopy is a valuable tool for assessing the respiratory tract, especially in horses facing respiratory issues or exhibiting poor performance.

The procedure involves passing a flexible camera, known as an endoscope, through your horse's nostril, pharynx, larynx, and down the trachea, with the option to examine the guttural pouches.
