Corrado from Surrey Hills did a 5-star pre-purchase vetting as so impressed as did not know this. Vetting report was completed in 2 hours and he called me to go over everything. Amazing, quick service and felt very reassured. Thanks again.

Top dental care by West Sussex equine dentists
Equine dentistry is key to your horse's overall health and comfort as they age. For senior horses, regular dental care means they stay healthy and can eat comfortably. For performance horses, dental issues can affect how they respond to the bit, their behaviour and ultimately their performance – so regular check-ups are a must.
Surrey Hills Equine offers a full range of equine dental services, from routine maintenance to more complex treatments.
Our experienced team of horse dentists brings all the necessary equipment to your yard, making it convenient and stress-free for you and your horse.
Each dental appointment includes a complete oral examination under light sedation. This means your horse will be calm and comfortable, and we can assess every aspect of their dental health with precision. Sedation also makes it safer for your horse and our team.
During the procedure, we use a head support system to keep your horse relaxed and to allow us to work accurately.

West Sussex horse vets for five-stage pre-purchase examinations
Our vets are experienced in performing 5-stage pre-purchase examinations (PPEs) a crucial step in making informed decisions when buying a horse. This thorough assessment – available as a 2 or 5-stage exam – will give you valuable information about the horse's health and condition.
The 5-stage PPE includes:
Stage 1—Preliminary Examination: Full physical exam, behaviour check, verification of passport and microchip, check of teeth, eyes, heart, and lungs, and palpation for abnormalities.
Stage 2—Walk and Trot-Up In-Hand: Walk and trot the horse, lunging on hard and soft surfaces when possible, to evaluate movement and look for lameness.
Stage 3 – Exercise Phase: Ride the horse through all gaits – walk, trot, canter, gallop – and monitor for lameness or cardio/respiratory issues.
Stage 4 – Rest and Re-examination: Recheck heart and respiratory function during the recovery period.
Stage 5 – Second Trot-Up: Repeat the trot-up to see any changes post-exercise.
We recommend 5-stage PPE for all riding horses. Depending on the horse's value, insurance needs, or specific concerns, we may suggest additional diagnostics such as drug screening, X-rays, ultrasound or endoscopy to give you a complete picture and peace of mind.

Other Equine Services in Surrey
Our horse vets can provide a complete range of services, including:

Lameness and poor performance
Lameness issues can inflict pain on your horse and cause concern and disruption for you as an owner. Our goal is to identify the cause of the problem and recommend suitable treatment to get your horse back to normal as quickly as possible.
The lameness investigation may involve various procedures, including the examination of your horse's conformation, movement, stride, and limb placement, flexion tests, palpation of the limbs and muscles, examination at walk and trot in hand and on the lunge, ridden examination, nerve or joint blocks, and X-ray or ultrasound.

Gastroscopy
Equine gastric ulcer syndrome (EGUS) is increasingly acknowledged as a common culprit behind various clinical signs, including poor performance, behavioural changes, reduced appetite, lacklustre coat condition, and discomfort during girthing.
All horses face the risk of developing ulcers, with contributing factors such as a high-carbohydrate diet, intense training or competition schedules, and stressors like illness or changes in routine, such as box rest.
Using a gastroscope, we can visually inspect the horse's esophagus, stomach and proximal duodenum to confirm the presence of ulcers. Since ulcer treatment can be costly, a thorough stomach examination through gastroscopy is recommended before initiating any treatment.

Mobile diagnostic imaging
Surrey Hills Equine employs cutting-edge portable wireless diagnostic imaging tools, including Digital X-ray systems, Ultrasound Scanners, and Video Endoscopy, delivered directly to clients' premises. This innovative approach allows us to provide the convenience of on-site examinations, eliminating the need to transport horses.
Our horse vets may recommend additional diagnostic imaging, whether it is for lameness investigations, pre-purchase examinations (vetting), dental or head-related concerns, or assessments of upper airways for respiratory conditions or Strangles cases.

Endoscopy
Endoscopy is a valuable tool for assessing the respiratory tract, especially in horses facing respiratory issues or exhibiting poor performance.
The procedure involves passing a flexible camera, known as an endoscope, through your horse's nostril, pharynx, larynx, and down the trachea, with the option to examine the guttural pouches.
